A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Emmanuel Ogidi, has predicted that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, would soon turn against the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to him, the APC had initially empowered Wike to bring down the PDP, but the tables are turning.
Speaking on Wednesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Ogidi said the wrangling between Wike and some APC members would also get worse.
He however said the APC is only getting a dose of its own medicine from Wike.
“How can you reconcile with people? How can you reconcile with the man who wants to bring down your house? Now look at APC—APC, after all the shouting now. But they were the ones who empowered him to try and destroy the PDP.
“So he did something. He’s going to give them their own. So you see, when you have a member of your family who is running wild, you just put him aside,” Ogidi said.
Naijaonpoint recalls that in recent days, Wike and the APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, have been at logger heads and have been publicly trading words.
The controversy centres on the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
While Fubara’s defection to the APC appeared to have endeared him to the party’s hierarchy, Wike is unhappy with the development and against anyone supporting the Governor.
Also, Wike had warned Basiru to steer clear of Rivers State politics, declaring the state a “no-go area” for political interference. He issued the warning during a thank-you visit to Oyigbo Local Government Area, alleging that some political actors were exploiting what he claimed was N600bn in the state’s coffers to make reckless statements about Rivers politics.
he Minister’s comments followed remarks attributed to the APC Vice Chairman (South-South), Victor Giadom, who reportedly referred to Fubara as “the so-called governor” and claimed that the Governor could not secure a second term without Wike’s backing.
Reacting earlier, Basiru had described Giadom’s remarks as unfortunate, insisting that the office of Governor must be respected regardless of political differences.
Basiru also warned Wike to desist from what he described as attempts to destabilise the ruling party.
He insisted that the Minister should resign from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet if he cannot stop interfering in the party’s internal affairs.
