A former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, said on Tuesday that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost its way.
The party, he said, no longer offers the inspiration needed to rebuild Nigeria and expressed deep disillusionment with its current trajectory.
“That’s why I have decided to unite with other patriotic Nigerians in a new effort to restore the nation’s dignity and purpose.”
His formal resignation from the ruling party was conveyed through a letter, addressed to the APC chairman of Ward 8 in Ubima, Ikwerre local government area of Rivers State.
Amaechi is one of the political leaders who have shown interest in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a new coalition in the political space.
According to him, the APC now represents “nothing but disappointment, hardship, and disregard for the Nigerian people.”
The former minister explained that his departure from the APC followed careful reflection and broad consultations with stakeholders who shared a common vision for a renewed Nigeria.
“The All Progressives Congress now symbolises failure, pain, and anguish—we must rescue our dear nation.”
Amaechi said the APC has veered far from the ideals and aspirations that once gave Nigerians hope. He added that the party’s actions no longer align with the principles that inspired its founding, making it impossible for him to continue associating with it.
