Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos on Monday staged a protest at the Lagos State House of Assembly, calling for the removal of the party’s state chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi.

Naijaonpoint reports that the protesters, drawn from all 57 Local Council Development Areas, marched to the Assembly complex, wielding placards with inscriptions such as “Ojelabi Must Go” and “We Want Fresh Leadership.”

The demonstration, which started early in the day, attracted a heavy security presence. Police officers were deployed around the Assembly complex to maintain order and prevent any outbreak of violence as tensions rose among party members.

Naijaonpoint reports that protesters marched out over the alleged planned imposition of appointees at the 20 Local Government Areas (LGA) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) of the state.

The state deputy Governor, Kadri Hamzat, visited the scene of the protest to calm the atmosphere.

The deputy governor stated that the ongoing issue is a party matter and will be resolved as soon as possible.

In other news, a former Minister of Youth and Sports in the administration of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, Solomon Dalung, has stated that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will plunge even deeper into crisis.

In an interview with The Guardian, Dalung stated that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) had addressed the issue of candidature before coming together, asserting that nothing would stop the party from emerging triumphantly.

While stating that the APC is pregnant with more crises than any other party, the former Minister predicted an intensifying internal crisis within the ruling party, warning that it could surpass the challenges faced by any other political party in the country.
