The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), barring any last-minute changes, is set to meet in Abuja on Thursday to deliberate on pressing leadership matters that threaten internal cohesion within the ruling party.

Multiple sources at the APC national secretariat confirmed to Daily Trust that the party’s leadership vacuum, following the resignation of former National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, is the central issue on the agenda.

Naijaonpoint recalls that Ganduje, a former governor of Kano State, tendered his resignation on June 27, amid intense internal wrangling. His departure led to the emergence of the Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori, as acting chairman.

According to sources, the forthcoming NEC meeting will focus on whether Dalori will be confirmed as substantive chairman or asked to oversee a transition process.

Party insiders say Thursday’s meeting is expected to either ratify Dalori’s interim leadership with a fixed timetable for a national convention or explore other options, including appointing a new chairman outright.

Some insiders suggest that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who doubles as the party’s national leader, could use the opportunity to push through his preferred candidate for the top job.

The outcome of the meeting is expected to shape the immediate future of the APC as the party grapples with internal realignments, defection rumours, and preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The APC NEC is the party’s second-highest decision-making body after the National Convention. It comprises the President, Vice President, APC governors, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), state chairmen, and key party stakeholders nationwide.
