Human rights activist and public commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has warned that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may face the same fate as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which lost power after 16 years of dominance.
In a statement made public on Monday, October 27, via his verified 𝕏 handle, Shehu drew parallels between the arrogance he said characterised the PDP during its years in power and what he described as the APC’s growing disregard for institutions and citizens.
Recalling how the PDP once boasted of ruling Nigeria for 60 years, Shehu pointed to the words of former party chairman, Vincent Ogbulafor, who in 2008 publicly declared that the PDP would remain in power for six decades.
“But because God is always in charge, Ogbulafor’s PDP was humiliated and disgraced out of power,” Shehu said.
“Today, before the very eyes of the world, PDP is preparing itself for burial with no priest willing to preside over the burial mass.”
‘APC Treading Same Path’
The activist warned that the APC was now making similar mistakes. According to him, the ruling party is “taking everything for granted” while “destroying institutions, individuals, cohesion and economy.”
“With the way and manner APC is intimidating people, harassing and blackmailing some, its eventual demise and destruction may not be far away,” he added.
Shehu buttressed his remarks with several biblical quotations, likening the ruling party’s actions to arrogance before God.
Quoting Psalm 37:10, he said: “A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found.”
He also referenced 1 Samuel 2:3: “Boast no more so very proudly, do not let arrogance come out of your mouth; for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and with Him actions are weighed.”
Shehu further cited Psalm 31:18 and Isaiah 13:11, which warn against arrogance, pride, and wickedness, insisting that divine judgment awaits all leaders who abuse power.
In the concluding part of his message, the activist declared: “Like the PDP, APC seems to be in the path of collusion with God by crashing everybody and gate-crashing into the ocean of destruction. Whatever goes up must surely come down.”
