A former Minister of Youth and Sports in the administration of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, Solomon Dalung, has said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will plunge deeper into crisis.

In an interview with The Guardian, Dalung said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) had dealt with the issue of candidature before coming together, asserting nothing will stop the party from coming out triumphantly.

While stating that the APC is pregnant with more crises than any other parties, the former Minister predicted an intensifying internal crisis within the ruling party, warning that it could surpass the challenges faced by any other political party in the country.

Referring to the recent ousting of the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and ongoing talks to bring Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), into the APC fold, Dalung said the APC was heading toward internal turmoil following controversial leadership changes and political realignments.

He said the changes in the APC are strategic moves to secure and preserve the party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that the ruling party is already facing fragmentation.

He said: “There will be more crises in the APC than any political parties. They have moved every politician to a near one-party state. And all their different interests and ambitions are going to rock the party.

“You can see the repositioning of the party where they have gone to remove Ganduje and try to woo Kwankwaso.

“They have appointed Nentawe Yilwatda as the National Chairman so that it can pave the way for the sustenance of the Muslim-Muslim ticket. So, the crisis in the APC is worse than any political parties.

“The ADC is standing by, watching and praying that when there is an implosion in the APC, it will harvest, organise and take over the government and reposition Nigeria.

“So, the crisis is more in the APC where even governors defected without their people. The Akwa Ibom and Delta State governors left the people behind in the PDP. They will now move into the ADC if the PDP cannot resolve its problems.

“Let me tell, before the agreement to come together in ADC, the issue of the candidature was dealt with and we had an agreement that we are preoccupied with how to solve Nigerian problems, not individual interests.”
