The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused unnamed politicians of hiring gun-wielding thugs to disrupt the planned homecoming visit of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.
Naijaonpoint reports that the party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris, made the allegation on Wednesday, November 12, while briefing journalists in Gusau.
Idris described the alleged move as a deliberate attempt to sabotage the minister’s visit scheduled for Thursday, where Matawalle is expected to meet party leaders, members, and supporters in Gusau and Maradun.
According to him, intelligence reports showed plans to unleash violence along the route.
He said, “Unfortunately, we have received credible information that there is a serious, destructive plan for the minister’s visit.”
The APC spokesman alleged that some hired thugs had been stationed along the Gusau–Maradun road, particularly around Tsafe, with the aim of attacking the minister’s convoy and causing widespread chaos.
Despite the tension, the party urged its members to maintain peace and avoid any action that could escalate the situation.
Idris warned, “We are therefore warning our members against carrying any type of weapon throughout the minister’s visit and beyond to ensure peace and order.”
He emphasised the need for party supporters to remain law-abiding and allow security agencies to manage potential threats.
The APC appealed to security agencies to take the alleged plot seriously and ensure adequate protection before, during, and after the minister’s arrival.
Idris added that anyone caught attempting to cause unrest should be arrested and prosecuted.
