The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced fresh appointments into its National Working Committee (NWC), following a strategic zoning adjustment approved at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.

Prominent among the new appointments is Abdulkarim Kana, who moves from his former position as National Legal Adviser to become the party’s Deputy National Secretary. In his place, Murtala Kogiya from Katsina State has been named the new National Legal Adviser.

Naijaonpoint reports that the realignments followed a motion by Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, who also serves as Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum. He said the reshuffle was necessary to promote internal equity and regional fairness within the party structure.

“It will be a thing of joy for me to take advantage of this moment to drive this composite motion,” Uzodimma told NEC members.

Under the new arrangement, the office of the National Legal Adviser was moved from the North-Central to the North-West, while the position of Deputy National Secretary remained in the North-Central.

The motion was seconded by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, who lent his full backing to the new appointments and zoning realignment.

“I hereby second the following motions… including the filling of offices of the Deputy National Secretary and the National Legal Adviser in accordance with the new zoning arrangements,” Abbas said.

The NEC also resolved to extend the tenure of all ward, local government, state, and zonal executives of the party until December 31, 2025, citing the need for continuity due to Nigeria’s compressed political timetable.
