The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended former governor and current senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, over allegations of anti-party activities.
Daniel was suspended alongside a party chieftain, Kunle Folarin, after a resolution by the State Working Committee (SWC) on Tuesday.
In a statement issued by the party’s Director of Publicity, Nuberu Olufemi, the APC explained that the decision followed recommendations from disciplinary panels set up by Ward 4 and Ward 6 in Sagamu Local Government Area, where Daniel and Folarin hail from.
According to the party, both men were invited to appear before the panels to defend themselves but failed to honour the summons or submit any written defence. Their absence, the APC said, forced the committees to proceed with witness testimonies and documentary evidence in their cases.
The party further alleged that Daniel and Folarin attempted to obstruct the process by intimidating members and pressuring them to withdraw petitions filed against them.
The SWC, chaired by Chief Yemi Sanusi, reviewed the findings and ratified the indefinite suspension of the duo, stressing that the action was necessary to uphold party discipline and integrity.
“The suspensions were based on their refusal to cooperate with the investigation and attempts to interfere with the process. The party remains committed to maintaining discipline and enforcing its constitution,” the statement read.
