The Taraba State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says it will hold a crucial meeting today (Monday) with key stakeholders to decide the official date for receiving Governor Agbu Kefas into the party.

Speaking to journalists in Jalingo over the weekend, the APC state chairman, Ibrahim El-Sudi, described the governor’s planned defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as “a divine breakthrough” for the party after years of struggle to capture power in the state.

“We have been yearning for this for 13 years. God has finally given us the Taraba Government House without going to the polls,” El-Sudi said.

He added that the development was “a clear testimony that God’s time has come for the APC in Taraba,” noting that the party had consistently laid the groundwork for such a political realignment.

]El-Sudi disclosed that plans were underway for a grand reception ceremony in Jalingo to officially welcome Governor Kefas into the APC fold.

He revealed that the event would attract high-profile dignitaries, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC), and prominent stakeholders from across the Northeast geopolitical zone.

“Preparations are in top gear. The reception will be a historic event in Taraba, as we formally receive the governor into our party,” the chairman said.

Kefas Has Met With Top APC Leaders

The APC chairman confirmed that Governor Kefas had already held a series of consultative meetings in Abuja with senior APC figures, including President Tinubu and the national leadership of the party, before finalising his decision to cross over.

“He has met those who matter, from the President to the national chairman. He was advised to engage with the APC structure in Taraba, and we are ready to welcome him,” El-Sudi disclosed.

According to him, the governor’s defection is expected to boost collaboration between the Taraba State Government and the Federal Government, which he said would “usher in a new era of progress and development.”

Addressing concerns among long-serving APC members, El-Sudi assured them that no one would be sidelined after the governor’s entry into the party.

“Our party remains democratic. Anyone who wishes to contest for the governorship under the APC platform is free to do so,” he stated.
