A fresh twist has emerged in the purported suspension of the Nasarawa State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Aliyu Bello, as 18 out of 27 executives of the party in Gayam Ward, Lafia Local Government Area, have dissociated themselves from the action.
Naijaonpoint reports that the majority of the ward executives described the suspension as a unilateral move by a faction led by the ward Chairman, Ibrahim Iliyasu, and Secretary, Ibrahim Kwande, accusing them of flouting party procedures and acting without consultation.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lafia on Wednesday, the Assistant Secretary of the Ward, Adamu Bawa, who spoke on behalf of the 18 executive members, said the announcement of Bello’s suspension did not reflect the position of the ward leadership.
He further stated that the move was not only unconstitutional but also capable of bringing the party’s name into disrepute at various levels.
Bawa further criticised the faction for not following the disciplinary procedures outlined in the APC Constitution before attempting to suspend a key figure in the state leadership.
He said, “The Ward Chairman, Ibrahim Iliyasu, and the Ward Secretary, Ibrahim Kwande and a few others unilaterally and unlawfully suspended the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nasarawa State, Dr. Aliyu Bello, without due process and in flagrant violation of the provisions of the Constitution of the APC, 2022 as Amended.
“Therefore, we resolve as follows; That the Gayam Ward Executive Committee categorically dissociates itself from the purported suspension of Dr. Aliyu Bello, the Nasarawa State Chairman of the APC. The suspension is illegal, invalid, and it is of no effect whatsoever.
“That the conduct of Ibrahim Iliyasu and Ibrahim Kwande amounts to a gross violation of Article 21 of the APC Constitution (2022 as Amended) and is hereby condemned in its entirety.
“That the two of them, Ibrahim Iliyasu and Ibrahim Kwande are hereby suspended from office and subsequently referred to the appropriate disciplinary committee for investigation and sanction in line with the provisions of the APC’s Constitution.
“That the Executive Committee reaffirms its loyalty and unflinching support for the leadership of Dr. Aliyu Bello as the duly recognised and legitimate State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Nasarawa State.
“That this resolution be communicated to the APC at the Local Government, State, and National Secretariat for further action and records.”
Other executive members of the Gayam Ward who were present during the press briefing include the Deputy Chairman, Adamu Awe; the Auditor, Garba Baba; the Treasurer, Sarki Usman; the Youth Leader, Auwal Wambai; the Assistant Auditor, Alhassan Dahiru, among others.
