Some chieftains of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State have declared that the party is doing all things humanly possible to take over the mantle of leadership from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state in 2027.
The APC chieftains made this declaration on Saturday while addressing journalists at the launch of a book authored by a News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reporter, Akeem Abas, titled ‘A Life Of Principle: The Olayide Moshood Abas Story, in honour of his father, Pharmacist Olayide Abas, who doubles as the Chairman of APC in the state.
The book launch which commemorated the APC chairman’s 76th birthday, was attended by prominent chieftains of the party in the state, including Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli (Oyo South), the member of the House of Representatives representing Ido/Ibarapa East, Aderemi Oseni, APC senatorial aspirant in Oyo Central, Mr Wasiu Ademola Alli and APC gubernatorial aspirant, Barrister Akeem Agbaje.
Others include Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, APC Publicly Secretary, Mr Wasiu Olawale Sadare, Idris Lapade, Architect Hassan Giwa, Yemi Aderibigbe, Senator Kola Balogun and Oyo State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Mr Ademola Babalola, among others.
DAILY POST reports that APC lost the mantle of leadership in the state to Governor Seyi Makinde of the PDP in the 2019 and 2023 general elections.
The APC chieftains, who spoke at the event, said the party has resolved to take over the state in 2027.
Alli said there is no problem in the political party.
He said, “There is no problem in Oyo State APC. By the special grace of God, APC is coming to take over Oyo State in 2027. The President has said it yesterday.”
Agbaje in his contribution said, “Well my own view is that APC has always been the strongest party in Oyo State. And once we are united we will always defeat the PDP.”
