Former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Farouk Adamu Aliyu, has warned that the All Progressives Congress, APC, would continue to destabilize the opposition in Nigeria despite meeting former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Aliyu said the APC would ensure that the opposition does not come together, because the ruling party “will put sand and stones in their garri.”

His warning is coming after former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai and his team visited Buhari last week.

After the meeting, Atiku, El-Rufai and his entourage also met with some opposition figures in Kaduna State.

The meeting comes after the former Vice President, El-Rufai, and other opposition members hinted on the formation of a coalition aimed at removing President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

However, in an interview with AIT, Aliyu said: “There is opposition in this country, when we were in the opposition, we brought this country to a standstill, we opposed the government and we want them to come and oppose us.

“It’s so embarrassing that they are running all over the place to Buhari, let me say to the public, we will not just sit by and allow them to come together; we will make sure we ‘put sand in their garri’ because it’s part of politics.”

On APC being behind the squabbles within the opposition, he said: “Yes we are, we will not just sit by and allow the opposition to dethrone us, so we will keep putting sand inside their garri until they are able to to fight back.

“But as at now, honestly there is no viable opposition in this country that can defeat us. We will not just put sand in their garri but stones because we think we are doing well.

“In the wisdom of the people, if they believe that we are not doing well, when the election comes they should defeat us. We know that they are putting stones in our garri but the difference is that we know we have something at stake, we have the government so there are a lot of things to put us together than to disunite us.

“There are dissenting voices which is normal in democracy but what I’m telling them is that we will keep putting sand inside their garri and not allow them to be a gog in the wheel of our progress.”
