Appeal Court Did Not Reinstate Abure – Labour Party’s Legal Adviser

The Labour Party’s National Legal Adviser, Kehinde Edun, has clarified that Julius Abure was never removed as the party’s National Chairman, contrary to speculations.

Edun explained that the recent ruling by the Abuja Court of Appeal merely affirmed Abure’s position as the rightful chairman, rather than reinstating him.

Naijaonpoint recalls that last week, the appellate court, through a three-member panel led by Justice Hamma Barka, upheld its November 13, 2024, judgment, which recognized Abure as the party’s National Chairman.

The court emphasized that its decision remains valid and has not been overturned by any other judicial body.

Justice Barka highlighted that the appeals, filed by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman and a caretaker committee, as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), did not address Labour Party leadership disputes, which the court deemed non-justiciable.

Furthermore, the court ruled that the October 8, 2024, judgment of Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court was null and void, as it was delivered without proper jurisdiction.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Edun reiterated: “There’s something that must be made clear, (Julius Abure) was never removed, so it was never a case of being reinstated. it was a case of his position being affirmed by that court.”

The LP’s legal adviser acknowledged that the party’s crisis was damaging the party and assured its members that the leadership was making efforts to resolve it.

“We know that there is a crisis in the party because of the way they are making it to look, but we are making efforts to reconcile to make everybody come, and we still have time to do that.

“We have never picked a fight with anybody. We didn’t go to court against Nenadi, we went to court against INEC and the court resolved the dispute and they said they want to join. We have never sued any member of the party,” Edun added.
