The Enugu State Police Command has arrested an armed robbery suspect who disguised himself in a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) uniform while attempting to flee along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Monday, noting that the suspect was intercepted by operatives attached to the Safer Highway Patrol on October 11.

According to Ndukwe, the police recovered several items from the suspect, including a motorcycle believed to have been stolen, an ATM card, clothes, and a gun-like object crafted from a body lotion container wrapped in cloth.Preliminary investigations revealed that earlier that morning, around 8 a.m., the suspect had allegedly broken into a residence at 9th Mile in Udi Local Government Area. He reportedly used the improvised weapon to threaten and rob the victim before attempting to escape on the motorcycle.“To evade security checks, he dressed in an NYSC uniform, but the operatives noticed something unusual and intercepted him,” Ndukwe said.

He added that the suspect would be charged in court after the completion of investigations.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, has commended the officers for their swift and decisive action, assuring residents that the command remains committed to fighting crime across the state.

Giwa also urged members of the public to continue providing the police with useful information that could aid efforts to maintain safety and security in Enugu State.
