Armed robbers kill phone shop operator in Abuja

Some armed robbers on Tuesday, June 10, killed a phone shop operator, Idris Yakubu at his shop which also serves as his residence in Dakibiyu Village, Abuja.

It was gathered the robbers stabbed Yakubu to death when they invaded his shop in the area.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-terrorism expert in a post made on X said the incident occurred at about 3.30 am on Tuesday.

According to Makama, the yet-to-be-identified armed men broke into Yakubu’s residence and stole several phones.

He said the assailants stabbed the phone shop operator on the left side of his back.

He was left in a pool of blood before some neighbours rushed him to Gwarinpa General Hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival by the doctors on the ground.

Family sources said the armed robbers targeted valuable mobile phones from Yakubu’s shop.

According to the source, there is the possibility that the shop operator might have resisted the armed men leading to the attack and stabbing.

Sources within the police said officers from the Jabi division were immediately deployed to the scene of the robbery.

The police source said after the confirmation by the doctors, the family of the deceased requested the release of the body for burial by Islamic rites.

The family’s request was granted by the police after all the necessary documentation while an investigation is ongoing to track the robbers and recover the stolen items.
