The Nigerian Army says its troops have arrested 11 logistics suppliers to terrorist groups and rescued nine kidnapped victims during nationwide operations carried out within 48 hours.
According to Daily Post, a senior military source at Army Headquarters disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday, adding that troops also seized ₦1.1 million cash, 114 livestock, petroleum products, firearms and other items from suspects.
The source further disclosed that troops of 149 Battalion in Gubio, Borno State, apprehended eight suspected logistics suppliers of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists on July 7.
“The troops also recovered 28 jerrycans and a drum of petrol concealed in shops and a POS centre, ₦145,510 cash and five mobile phones,” the source said.
In Katsina State, troops of 17 Brigade foiled a terrorist attack at Gidan Kwairo village in Malumfashi Local Government Area, rescuing five kidnapped victims as the terrorists fled.
Similarly, troops of Forward Operating Base Sanga in Kaduna State stopped a kidnap attempt at Ungwan Bera village, rescuing four victims, including two children. Two of them sustained injuries and were taken to ECWA Private Hospital, Fadan Karshi, for treatment.
Naijaonpoint reports that the Army also confirmed the arrest of Ex-Lance Corporal Emefik Michael, a dismissed soldier caught on September 7 in Mowe, Ogun State, while extorting locals in military camouflage. He has since been handed over to the police.
In Bayelsa State, troops of 5 Battalion, working with NSCDC and a private security outfit, arrested a notorious oil wellhead vandal at Okordia, Yenagoa. The suspect was transferred to the Department of State Services (DSS) for investigation.
Troops of IV Brigade, Operation MESA, stormed Kokotoro Camp in Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State, arresting a suspected militant.
A pump-action rifle and four cartridges were recovered while the camp was destroyed.
In Taraba State, troops of Operation Enduring Peace intercepted two men on a motorcycle at Gayam checkpoint in Gashaka LGA with ₦1m cash.
One suspect fled, but investigations later linked the money to the murder of a farmer whose cash had been stolen. A motorcycle and mobile phone were also recovered.
In Plateau State, troops of Operation Enduring Peace seized 105 cattle and nine rams grazing on farmlands at Jwak Metumbi in Mangu LGA without their herders.
The animals were moved to the troops’ base, with community leaders asked to identify the owners for resolution.
The source reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to intensify operations and deny criminals freedom of action nationwide.
“Our troops will sustain the momentum until terrorists, kidnappers and other criminal elements have nowhere to hide,” the source said.
