Army detains female soldier over alleged theft and misconduct

In a statement released by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt-Col Appolonia Anele, the Army disclosed that Corporal Maidoki is under investigation for alleged actions that violate the core values of the institution.

“As a professional body, the Nigerian Army operates within the framework of the Armed Forces Act (Cap A20 LFN 2004), internal military regulations, and the highest ethical standards. Her detention is in line with lawful procedures applicable to military personnel,” the statement read.

The Army emphasized that disciplinary processes within its ranks are not arbitrary and that all accused personnel are entitled to due process and fair treatment.

The statement further clarified that Corporal Maidoki’s rights and welfare are being respected throughout the investigation.

“The Nigerian Army remains committed to upholding the legal and human rights of all service members, regardless of the accusations they face,” it added.

Responding to concerns raised by the public and Maidoki’s family, the Army dismissed claims of unlawful detention or denial of legal representation, calling such reports false and misleading.

“We urge the public to avoid speculation and await the outcome of the ongoing investigation. The Army remains open to lawful communication from concerned parties, provided such interactions respect the procedures in place,” the Army stated.

Reaffirming its stance on accountability, the statement concluded: “No one is above the law. Allegations of misconduct must be addressed through thorough and lawful procedures to safeguard the discipline, integrity, and operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Army.”
