The Commander of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General KC Uwa, on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, conducted an operational and confidence-building visit to Chanchanji in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Naijaonpoint reports that the operation was conducted following recent deadly attacks that claimed the lives of several farmers.
The visit comes amid intensified clearance operations in the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility, driven by intelligence reports indicating the presence of suspected armed herders in surrounding bushes.
During the visit, Brigadier General Uwa led troops on extensive patrols across Chanchanji and neighbouring areas, covering identified flashpoints and access routes to farmlands. The patrols were aimed at deterring criminal activity and restoring public confidence in the military’s ability to secure the area.
At Chanchanji Market Square, the Brigade Commander met with residents and displaced farmers from affected villages including Ayu, Dooshima, New Gboko, Adu Tyopaa, Peeki, and Tyojande.
Many of the farmers expressed fear of returning to their ancestral homes and farmlands, citing threats of renewed attacks and ongoing insecurity.
Brigadier General Uwa issued orders for the deployment of troops to provide security cover for farmers and directed sustained farm patrols throughout the harvest period.
He assured the community that the Nigerian Army would continue to pursue those behind the attacks until they are brought to justice.
“We are committed to ensuring your safety,” Uwa said, urging locals to provide credible intelligence on suspicious movements. He also warned against spreading unverified information capable of undermining security efforts.
Displaced farmers and community leaders commended the Commander’s direct engagement, describing it as timely and reassuring. Some residents indicated their willingness to begin returning to their farms under military protection.
The operation and community outreach were conducted without incident, with troops maintaining a visible security presence across all visited locations.
The 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, livelihoods, and ensuring that law-abiding citizens in its area of operation can live and farm in peace.
