Arthur Jarvis University begins treatment of life-threatening illnesses

As part of efforts to promote local content, Arthur Jarvis University Institute of Trado-Medical Research in Akpabuyo, Cross River State says it has commenced treatment of life threatening illnesses in the South South region of the country.

The Chancellor of the University, Sir Arthur Jarvis Archibong made the disclosure in a press conference in Calabar.

The Chancellor said the university intend to use its already approved construction and equipped standard research institute within the university campus to treat live threatening illnesses such as hemorrhoids, (pile), prostate, diabetes, asthma, kidney stone, cancer, fibroid, epilepsy, bone fracture/dislocation/ setting among others.

He said the institute will make use of the wide range of herbs from the surrounding forest across the university community and the available Traditional Medical practitioners within and around its locality to treat the ailments.

The Chancellor of the university which commenced academic activities in 2017 said the action is in line with the Federal Government’s vision through the establishment of the Department of Traditional, Complimentary & Alternative Medicine (CAM) under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare as approved by Head of Service in 2018.

Sir Jarvis said the National University Commission (NUC) has already captured Complimentary & Alternative Medicine among courses for Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences under the CCMAS, to train graduates on how to integrate Traditional, Complimentary & Alternative Medicine into the National Health Care System.
