Google’s Pixel phones may be the focal point for Android 15 right now but if you own an ASUS ROG Phone 8, you’ll be able to test the software yourself, and before long, you’ll end up with a fully stable download.
As with past ROG Phone devices, ASUS is running a preview program for its ROG Phone 8 series. Users of any of the phones in that series can check out what Android 15 is all about. It’s worth noting that ASUS hasn’t officially confirmed when Android 15 will roll out to ROG Phone 8 users in full capacity. It just launched for Pixel phones today. That means it’s highly unlikely that ASUS will be ready to roll this out before at least a month or two has passed.
ASUS isn’t typically the quickest with rolling out updates to the new Android OS version. It’s not the slowest of the manufacturers either, but users shouldn’t be expecting it to drop next week for example. There’s a big reason for that, too.
Android 15 on the ROG Phone 8 is available through a preview program only
For the time being, the only way to get Android 15 on your ROG Phone 8 is to enroll in the preview program. Android Authority spotted an official post from ASUS on the ZenTalk forums that announces the preview program. It appears as if anyone who has a ROG Phone 8 is able to enroll in the program if they’re interested in testing the software.
It is a test build though. So it’s important to keep in mind that ASUS is using this to help hunt down and fix any potential bugs. If you decide to enroll in the preview program, you’ll need to be prepared to encounter such bugs as the software won’t be a stable build of Android 15.
The preview program is confidential
To join the preview program, you’ll need to have a ROG Phone 8. Specifically the AI2401 model. Then head into the phone’s settings menu. From there, head to the system menu. Then to system update, then tap on the gear icon in the top right corner of the screen. Once on the next screen, you should see an option for enrolling in the Android Preview Program. It’s also worth mentioning that enrolling doesn’t guarantee you’ll get the software right away. So keep an eye out for the notification to install the test build.
ASUS says that the preview program is also confidential. So that means you aren’t allowed to share any information or screenshots about the test software once you have installed it on your device.
