The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has dismissed reports claiming that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has embarked on a nationwide strike, assuring Nigerians that the university system remains stable and fully operational.

Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja, Alausa said the narrative of an ongoing ASUU strike is false and urged the public to disregard such claims.

“It is not by coincidence that Nigerian public tertiary institutions have remained open and stable for the past two years, something that has not happened in several decades,” Alausa said.

He attributed the sustained industrial peace across federal institutions to consistent dialogue, mutual understanding, and what he described as the Tinubu administration’s commitment to resolving issues in the education sector.

“This is a reflection of our government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining cordial relationships with all stakeholders in the education sector. We are meeting demands in phases, and we are doing so respectfully and consistently,” the minister explained.

Alausa stressed that under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, student welfare and uninterrupted academic calendars remain top priorities.

“Our children are the heartbeat of the nation, and their uninterrupted education is non-negotiable. The Federal Government will continue to engage all unions in the education sector to ensure the gates of our institutions remain open,” he added.

The Minister urged Nigerians to disregard reports suggesting ASUU has resumed industrial action, describing them as misleading and unhelpful.
