“Atalanta can challenge you” – Nigeria’s Lookman warns Napoli & Inter Milan as Scudetto race heats up

Super Eagles star Ademola Lookman has sent a clear warning to Inter Milan and Napoli, insisting Atalanta are firmly in the race for the Serie A title, Soccernet.ng reports.

It was a dramatic weekend in the Italian top flight. Inter Milan edged past Genoa 1-0 on Saturday, leapfrogging Napoli to take a one-point lead over Antonio Conte’s side, who suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at Cesc Fabregas’ Como.

Late on Sunday, Atalanta kept pace by demolishing Empoli 5-0 away, closing the gap to just three points behind Inter.

Lookman played a starring role in that win, scoring twice—once in each half—and earning the Man of the Match award.

Despite their strong form, Atalanta have never won the Scudetto. The Bergamo-based club, with six Serie B titles to its name, is often considered an outsider in the title race. But Lookman believes La Dea are serious contenders.

The Super Eagles forward, who was instrumental in Atalanta’s historic Europa League triumph last season, is convinced his side can push Inter and Napoli all the way.

Asked if he believes Atalanta are in the Scudetto race, Africa Footballer of the Year Lookman responded:

“We’re in a good moment, and we look ahead, aiming to get the most out of every game. Atalanta can challenge Napoli and Inter.”

With their Champions League and Coppa Italia campaigns over, Atalanta can now focus entirely on the league. A crucial March schedule awaits, featuring matches against Venezia, Juventus, Inter Milan, and Fiorentina.

Lookman, recently back from a lengthy injury layoff and having overcome public criticism from his own manager Gian Piero Gasperini, will be vital for Atalanta in the coming weeks.

The Nigerian international has already racked up 17 goals and seven assists this season, underlining his importance to La Dea’s title push.
