Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the recent terrorist attacks on communities in Agwarra and Borgu Local Government Areas of Niger State, describing them as “heinous” and “brazen.”
Naijaonpoint reports that the attacks, which left several residents dead and many, including schoolchildren, abducted, have sparked widespread outrage and calls for urgent action.
In a statement on Monday, Atiku said the continued onslaught against vulnerable communities must not be tolerated.
“Such brutality against defenseless people is unacceptable and deeply troubling,” he stated.
The former Vice President extended condolences to the bereaved families and expressed solidarity with the people and government of Niger State during what he described as a “painful period.”
“My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased, those abducted, particularly the children, and I urge the relevant authorities to act swiftly to secure their safe and unconditional release,” Atiku said.
Reiterating that the primary responsibility of any government is to protect lives and property, Atiku called for an enhanced security architecture in vulnerable regions.
“There is an urgent need to restore public confidence, strengthen local security, and ensure that the perpetrators of these atrocities are brought to justice,” he said.
