‘Atiku Is Tinubu’s Good Friend, They Be Might Be Exchanging Visits At Night’ – Orji Kalu

Orji Uzor Kalu

Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has stated that President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar remain close friends despite their political differences, adding that both men may still meet privately, away from public attention.

Naijaonpoint reports that Kalu made the remarks while speaking during an interview on Channels Television, where he also addressed criticism over his recent visit to Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, a Labour Party leader.

Kalu, a former governor of Abia State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisted that political affiliations should never stand in the way of personal relationships.

He said, “If anybody is thinking that I’m going to stop going to the governor because I’m a senator in APC and he’s a governor in Labour Party, they are just wasting their time.

“What if I go out of politics tomorrow, will I start going to amend my friendship because I abandoned it because of the party? No.”

He defended his visit to Governor Otti, stating that their relationship predates the current political alignments.

Kalu also seized the opportunity to highlight the long-standing friendship between President Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku, who was the presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2023 general election.

“Atiku is Tinubu’s good friend, but they are playing politics. I am sure they might even be exchanging visits in the night. Nobody knows,” he said.

He argued that while the political space is filled with tension and rivalry, behind closed doors, many leaders maintain cordial ties.

“It is healthy for constitutional democracy. For people hiding, it’s not good. There are a lot of people who will deceive Tinubu and say, ‘I don’t want to talk to this man,’ but they hide to talk to them. But I don’t,” Kalu added.

The former Senate Chief Whip said he maintains open and honest relationships with major figures across party lines.

“All the major players in PDP are my friends, and I can’t do away with them because they are in another party,” he declared.
