Atiku Left PDP After Losing 2023 Presidential Election, He Has Not Been Active Or Attending Meetings – Anenih

A former Minister of Women Affairs and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Josephine Anenih, has disclosed that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar dumped the party after the 2023 presidential election, which he lost.

According to Anenih, Atiku has failed to be active in the party or attend meetings since losing the 2023 presidential election.

She submitted that despite efforts and attempts by various PDP stakeholders to encourage Atiku to take up his responsibility as a leader in the party, the former Vice President refused to accede to the various pleas.

Naijaonpoint reports that Anenih, in her submission on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, submitted that Atiku did not leave the PDP on July 14, 2025, as reflected in his resignation letter, which surfaced on Wednesday, July 16, but dissociated himself from the party since losing the 2023 election.

“If you ask me, I would say he didn’t exit yesterday; he had exited after the last election, because after the last election, maybe he held a conference once or something, and that was it.

“He has not attended any meeting. We have even reached out to him.

“Even the women of the Board of Trustees went to him and we told him that the party is drifting because there is no leadership and we look at you as our ‘baba,’ as our leader and we expected you to take action, to be in the forefront, to give direction,” she stated.

The former Minister, however, insisted that Atiku’s departure from the PDP would not have any negative impact because the party is built on grassroots mobilization and those in the party are more than capable of ensuring the PDP does not go into extinction.

“In 1998, we didn’t have all those people, and those of us who were there —grassroots people. We managed to put the PDP together, and we won. As Chief Bode George said, anybody can go, anybody can come.

“But for those of us who believe in the PDP, we will do our best, and we know that the PDP can never die on our watch. Maybe when we are dead, the PDP can die, but it won’t die before us.”

Naijaonpoint recalls that Atiku announced his resignation from the PDP in a letter dated July 14, 2025, sparking mixed reactions across Nigeria’s political landscape.

He explained that his resignation was due to irreconcilable differences that had emerged within the major opposition party.
