Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has debunked reports of gifting a Military officer, Lieutenant Ahmed Yerima, a brand new Toyota SUV after a heated verbal confrontation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, during an enforcement visit to a disputed land in Abuja.
Naijaonpoint reports that reports online alleged that Atiku gifted Yerima the car following his altercation with Wike and commended his action.
However, in a statement on Thursday, the Media Adviser to Atiku, Paul Ibe, stated that the former presidential candidate neither gave a car to Yerima nor to any other individual.
Ibe described the reports as false and stated that the public should disregard them.
The tease statement read, “His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, Vice President of Nigeria (1999-2007), did not gift Lt. Ahmed Yerima or any other individual a brand new Toyota SUV, contrary to the false reports currently circulating on social media.
“The story is entirely fabricated and should be completely disregarded by the public.”
Meanwhile, Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has ruled out the possibility of disciplinary action against Yerima.
Matawalle gave the assurance in an interview with DCL Hausa, reacting to viral footage of the encounter that has sparked a national debate over civil–military relations and the limits of political authority.
The minister stated that the face-off was unnecessary and should have been handled through proper administrative channels rather than a public confrontation.
