Senior Political Assistant to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Demola Olarenwaju, has described the defection of former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as ‘historical’.
Naijaonpoint reports that Obi had announced his defection from the Labour Party to the ADC on Tuesday in Enugu State.
Speaking on the development via his 𝕏 account, Olarenwaju urged followers of Atiku and Obi to work together and ensure a joint ticket.
He noted that the future of Nigerians is not secure under President Bola Tinubu.
He wrote, “Peter Obi’s move to ADC is a historical pivot, repeatedly predicted by some of us, seeing the sun at midday is however not a sign of great eyesight, it is rather the ability to see the sun at midnight that proves our imagined reality as enlightened.
“The call now therefore even as we welcome Obi to an alliance he has been part of from the beginning, is for Obidients and Atikulates to sheath swords and make this happen.
“It is after all, our future and it is not safe at all under Tinubu.”
Meanwhile, Obi, has expressed displeasure at how politicians publicly celebrate electoral fraud.
Naijaonpoint reports Peter Obi spoke while formally announcing his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition on Wednesday in Enugu State.
Peter Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, vowed that any attempt to rig the 2027 election will be resisted lawfully and legitimately.
He also called for early verification of candidates’ academic records to avoid pre-election disputes.
He said, “We have all watched those who benefitted from our democracy now becoming accessories of our democracy either through coercion or gangsterism to the opposition.
“We can’t allow this to happen, we will resist it. We now see people celebrating electoral fraud publicly.
“And we are saying that those planning to rig elections in Nigeria come 2027, we will resist it by every means lawful and legitimate.”
