A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, on Thursday, dismissed concerns that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) emerging coalition poses any challenge to the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Naijaonpoint reports that the political group’s submission comes as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar officially registered as a member of the ADC in Adamawa State, a move that has sparked speculation about his possible presidential run under the party’s platform.
There have been speculations that Atiku may become the ADC’s presidential flagbearer for the 2027 general election, further stirring interest in opposition realignment.
However, the Director-General of the Ondo APC group, Adesuyi Adojutelegan, said in a statement on Thursday (today) that the ADC is “no threat” to President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
“It is clear that ADC cannot dislodge the APC. We know the former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has joined them now; we are not worried, even if he becomes their presidential candidate, Tinubu will still defeat him,” he stated.
Adojutelegan, who earlier inaugurated ward and local government coordinators of the group in Okitipupa, urged APC members to intensify mobilisation across Ondo South ahead of the 2027 polls.
He added, “To be honest, Tinubu has no opposition for this coming election in 2027. The President’s performance speaks for itself.”
According to him, Tinubu’s efforts in tackling insecurity are visible.
“He is actively addressing our security challenges as everyone can see it, and I am confident he will make Nigeria safer for everyone to live without any fear or intimidation,” he said.
Describing the ADC as “a party of aggrieved politicians trying to undermine Tinubu’s achievements,” Adojutelegan maintained that the president remains Nigeria’s best option, citing two years of “numerous achievements,” particularly in nationwide road infrastructure.
He also listed Tinubu’s economic initiatives and student loan programme among policies that “enhance educational access for underprivileged students.”
The group’s coordinator commended the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for what he called invaluable support to the APC structure in the state.
He charged the newly inaugurated coordinators to take the Tinubu message aggressively across communities.
“I encourage you all to engage in aggressive campaigning across the wards in the six local government areas of the southern senatorial district,” he said.
