Abba Atiku, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has publicly stated that President Bola Tinubu cannot be defeated in the 2027 presidential election.
His declaration followed his decision to dump his former political affiliation and register as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State.
Abba made the statement in Yola on Monday after collecting his APC membership card at Gwadabawa Ward in Yola North Local Government Area.
He explained that his move to the ruling party was driven by what he described as visible achievements of the Tinubu administration in governance, economy, and human development.
According to him, the president’s leadership style and reform agenda convinced him to support the APC ahead of the next general election.
Speaking to party members and residents at the ward, Abba expressed confidence that the president would secure a second term in office.
“I want to make it very clear that nobody or any political party can stop President Bola Tinubu from returning to Aso Rock come 2027. Nigerians have seen his good work; he is not a tribalist, he don’t make appointments based on religion or region, but his decisions are purely on merit,” he said.
Abba added that his decision was influenced by what he called massive infrastructural growth and human capital development across different parts of the country.
He urged Nigerians, regardless of party affiliation, to rally behind the president to ensure continuity of policies and reforms.
“The president needs your support to continue with the good work. We should mobilise more people and beyond party affiliations to support our president,” he said.
APC leaders in Adamawa welcomed Abba into the party and described his defection as a political boost for the ruling party ahead of 2027.
The APC Zonal Vice Chairman for Adamawa Central, Alhaji Isa Bagalti, presented Abba with his membership card during the registration exercise.
Bagalti said Abba’s entry into the party had removed doubts about the APC’s chances in the next election.
“It is now clear to people that there is no party in Nigeria or presidential candidate that can face our president at the poll come 2027,” he said.
Another APC leader in the state, Alhaji Jamil Yusuf, also spoke on the development.
He said President Tinubu currently has no serious challenger and dismissed other potential aspirants as unprepared.
He argued that leadership of the country should not be treated as a commercial venture.
“Majority of those saying that they are going to contest for the office of president see politics as a trade fair venue, where people sell and buy. I advise such people to invest their money in profitable ventures, because the office of the president is no longer for the highest bidder, but for competent people like President Tinubu,” he said.
The development has drawn attention because of Abba’s family background and his father’s long-standing political ambition.
His elder brother, Adamu Atiku, remains a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party and currently serves as Commissioner for Works and Energy Development under Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is now associated with the African Democratic Congress and is widely believed to be preparing for another presidential run.
However, none of his sons is currently active in the ADC alongside him.
