Atletico Madrid’s surprise £21.5 million bid for record-breaking Super Eagles star rejected

Eagles

Spanish giants Atletico Madrid have reportedly seen their shock £21.5 million bid for Fulham’s Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi knocked back, Footynaija.com understands.

Iwobi was one of Fulham’s most impressive players last season, making 15 goals contributions for the Cottagers to help them finish in the top half of the Premier League last season.

The Nigeria international particularly stood out in Marco Silva’s setup last campaign due to his improved clinical edge in front of goal. His tally of nine goals saw him break his personal best scoring record for a single season.

Apparently, Iwobi’s exploits from last season has piqued the interest of Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid with the Spanish giants tabling a surprise £21 million bid for the former Arsenal star according to a report by AfricaFoot.

Atletico Madrid reportedly offered an improved weekly wage of around £115,000 but with Fulham keen to hold on to their star man, Los Colchoneros’ first poaching attempt has ended in failure.

The coming weeks will reveal whether the La Liga giants will make an improved offer for Iwobi or let sleeping dogs lie. For now though, The Cottagers have no intention to part ways with their prized Nigerian asset.

Iwobi vs everton

Since joining the West London club from Everton in the summer of 2023, Iwobi had established himself as a vital player for Marco Silva. He has made 77 appearances so far, scoring 15 goals and registering eight assists.

Following his brilliant displays in the 2024/2025 season, it is expected that the Super Eagles star will continue to play a key role for the Cottagers next season.
