Avatar: Fire and Ash Final Trailer & First Scene Revealed

The final trailer and first full scene from Avatar: Fire and Ash have been revealed. The next sequel in James Cameron’s science-fiction franchise is set to make its theatrical debut on December 19, three years after the second movie, The Way of Water, came to theaters and went on to gross $2.3 billion at the worldwide box office.

Now, Fire and Ash‘s final trailer and first full clip have been released. The trailer begins with the new villain, Varang (Oona Chaplin), declaring that “Fire is the only pure thing in this world” as flames dance around her fingers. Soon after this, Kiri (Sigourney Weaver), insists to an elder Na’vi that something is being hidden from her.

Varang is seen working with the Na’vi Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) and orders to “Burn them all.” Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) heroically insists that he won’t let this happen. Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) tells her children “to go as far and fast” as possible if she and Jake do not return. Before the final action-packed montage, Miles “Spider” Socorro (Jack Champion) confronts Quaritch and yells, “Do not test me!” Check out the trailer below:

The first full clip features Varang and members of her Na’vi’s tribe, the Ash People, hunting Jake and Neytiri’s children across the jungles of Pandora. When the Ash People catch sight of their prey, they make a shrieking noise and begin sprinting after them. Lo’ak (Britain Dalton) says, “They’re coming” and descends into Pandora’s waters, followed by Kiri, Tuktirey (Trinity Bliss), and Spider. Lo’ak encourages Kiri and Tuk that he has them as they swim and encourages them to say the family motto: “Sullys never quit.”

The trailer and clip tease how Avatar: Fire and Ash‘s story pits the Sullys and the Ash People against each other. Other than the Na’vi version of Quaritch in The Way of Water, the franchise’s antagonists have always been human, but that changes with Varang and the Ash People this time around.

After the death of the eldest Sully child, Neteyam (Jamie Flatters), in The Way of Water, it has already been established that there are genuine life-or-death stakes for the young characters, and they are not safe simply because of their ages or for being part of the series’ central family. Lo’ak, Kiri, Tuk, and Spider are not guaranteed to survive, even with two more Avatar movies on the way.

In addition to dealing with the threat posed by the Ash People, many of the Sully children will be taking on larger roles in Fire and Ash. Lo’ak has been confirmed to be the new narrator after his father, Jake, filled this role in the previous films.

Spider will be reconciling with his human heritage and his father being Quaritch. There have also been shots in the marketing of Spider breathing without a mask, a feat that should not be possible for a human on Pandora. Meanwhile, Kiri has a uniquely deep connection to Pandora and Eywa, which is poised to be further explored in the sequel as well.

There was speculation that Jake could die in Avatar: Fire and Ash, with earlier trailers showing that he is taken captive, and all while Lo’ak and the younger generation get larger roles. Audiences will have to wait until December to find out whether this becomes a reality, but regardless of what happens, he and Neytiri will do everything in their power to protect their children and Pandora.
