A new, 2D Avatar: The Last Airbender fighting game was just announced, featuring classic characters and a bold visual style pulled straight from the beloved animated series. There have been plenty of video games based on Avatar: The Last Airbender and its follow-up The Legend of Korra, with some being more warmly received than others.
During this weekend’s New York Comic Con 2025 event, publisher Gameplay Group announced Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, a 1-v-1 fighting game set for release sometime in summer 2026. The recently added YouTube trailer spotlighted characters like Aang, Korra, Toph, and Prince Yuko as they challenged one another in fast-paced duels. The game is now available to wishlist on Steam.
New Avatar Game Coming In 2026
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game Looks Just Like The Show
According to the game’s Steam page, the tentatively-titled Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will feature 12 playable characters at launch, with more to be added as seasonal DLC. There will also be support characters that can grant special moves and an original single-player storyline set in the sprawling Avatar: The Last Airbender universe.
Other promised features include a unique “Flow System” with movement-centric gameplay, combo trials, a gallery mode, and refined net code and cross-play for multiplayer battles. The most prominent aspect of Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game so far is its hand-drawn, 2D art style that recreates the anime-inspired visuals of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra.
2026 Is Shaping Up To Be An Exciting Year For Avatar Fans
A New Animated Movie Is Coming Next Year
Even outside of this new video game news, the next few years look to be an exciting time for fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender. 2026 will see the release of The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, a new animated feature film that will follow the cast of the original series as young adults.
Coming the year after that is Avatar: Seven Havens, the third animated series centered around the next Avatar years after the events of The Legend of Korra. Original series co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko will return to work on the series, which will run for 26 half-hour episodes across two seasons.
Meanwhile, there is yet another video game on the horizon for Avatar: The Last Airbender fans to experience between these exciting animated projects. Only time will tell if Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will fare better than some of the Avatar franchise’s past tie-in games, which haven’t exactly captivated audiences like their source material has.
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PC (via Steam) and Xbox Series X/S in the summer of 2026. The official title of the game is still subject to change.
