Avengers: Doomsday will see the return of Fox’s X-Men, as several actors are reprising their roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe installment. While the heroes of the MCU timeline will finally share the screen with the iconic mutants, it appears there may be another X-Men alum who is returning for the story.
During a new interview with the Power of X-Men podcast, famous Marvel and X-Men comic writer Chris Claremont reacted to the Avengers: Doomsday teaser with the returning mutants. However, during this chat, he said, “The thing I find most wonderful about it is they’re bringing back, the original cast, including Famke.”
It’s key to remember that this isn’t the first time that Claremont spilled details on the new Avengers movies that have ended up being true. In April 2025, the comic book writer revealed that Chris Evans was coming back to the franchise.
By December 2025, it was formally revealed that Evans is indeed returning in Avengers: Doomsday as Steve Rogers. At the time of this article’s publication, Marvel Studios had not commented on Claremont’s statement regarding Famke Janssen.
Janssen has previously denied that she is returning as Jean Grey in the upcoming MCU movie. When speaking to ScreenRant’s own Grant Hermanns in October 2025, the X-Men trilogy actor claimed that she had no idea about the story for Avengers: Doomsday, stating the following:
Famke Janssen: Yeah, to be honest with you, I don’t really know the storyline, so I’m not sure. It’s not my world, it’s never been my world, really, that whole comic book world. I should know by now, I’ve been in it long enough. But I’m really excited to see when it comes out. Just like everyone else, I’ll find out what those storylines are and how it all ended up.
What is worth taking into account is that it is very common for Marvel actors to have to deny their involvement before a film’s release, especially when they are under NDAs. That is why it wouldn’t be shocking at all if Janssen’s Jean was actually one of the many surprises in the Avengers: Doomsday cast.
Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige also confirmed at CinemaCon in 2025 that there are still many actors and characters that they have yet to announce for the Phase 6 installment, and Jean could easily be one of them. With the Avengers: Doomsday story being kept heavily under wraps, that would justify why an appearance by Janssen would be a huge secret.
Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on December 18.
