Azealia Banks hopped on social media to defend the usage of the n-word, and according to the “212” rapper, anyone can use the racial slur regardless of the color of their skin.

In a recent interview, rapper Mexican OT defended his own use of the word.

“What the fuck are you gonna do about it? And then second of all, I grew up loving these motherfuckers. I grew up fighting with them. I grew up eating with them. I grew up f–kin’ doing bad s–t with them,” he told Angela Yee. His comments sparked debate on social media.

Over the weekend, a fan tweeted the rapper asking, “If u not black. stop saying n—a. period. idk why that’s so hard??? idc who u grew up with. if u NOT black expand ur vocabulary.”

Banks disagreed.

“No. Everyone in the world can say and do what they want and black people really have no reason to be upset about it as offensive while we run around calling each other such an ugly word because we can’t expand our vocabulary. If we want people to let it go, we have to do so first,” she wrote, adding, “African people do not use that word.”
