The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has firmly rejected speculations that Governor Bala Mohammad may be eyeing defection to its platform, describing the rumour as “unfounded and unacceptable.”
In a statement on Wednesday, the PRP’s State Secretary, Wada Abdullahi, said the party had drawn a “clear line” and would not accept Governor Muhammad under any circumstances, citing what it called “a record of poor performance and disregard for democratic values.”
“His tenure as governor has been characterised by poor performance, which we find both disappointing and unacceptable,” the statement read.
The party accused the governor and his supporters of unruly conduct during political engagements at Wadata Plaza, the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja.
“Such behaviour is inconsistent with the values of our party, which stands for sanity, decency, orderliness, and discipline,” the statement declared.
It added that the PRP remains a sanctuary for disciplined leadership and is not a refuge for politicians with questionable records.
The statement went further to promise a full investigation into the Bala Muhammad administration should the PRP win the 2027 general election.
“We will thoroughly investigate his administration, bring any wrongdoers to book, and review policies implemented during his tenure,” it said.
Among the controversial policies the party said it would reverse are the creation of a First Class Emirate and the appointment of the governor’s elder brother as Emir.
Despite its hardline position on Governor Muhammad, the PRP emphasised that it remains open to individuals “who have contributed positively to the development of Bauchi State” and who align with the party’s principles.
