One of the main developers at Larian Studios and main creators of Baldur’s Gate 3, Swen Vincke has become a very popular figure among fans of the epic fantasy RPG. Fans of his work have been eager to hear his opinions on industry news and events, and for the occasional recommendation on upcoming games.
In an X post shared by Baldur’s Gate 3 creator Swen Vincke on X, he shows enthusiastic support for the upcoming “revolutionary” 3D pixel-art designed fantasy game, Project Shadowglass.
Vincke says that he “[loves] the way it looks,” highlighting the unique art style of the upcoming project from indie developer Starhelm Studios, spearheaded by members of the popular video game-focused band, Space Bards (via YouTube).
BG3’s Swen Vincke Shouts Out Fantasy Game Project Shadowglass
Project Shadowglass Is A “Revolutionary” True-3D Pixel Art Fantasy Game
Baldur’s Gate 3 creator Swen Vincke from Larian Studios appears enthusiastic over Project Shadowglass, particularly looking at its unique and revolutionary “True-3D” pixel art style. This design style is Project Shadowglass’ most unique feature, promising to deliver a fully realized 3D pixel art experience that is completely original, without the use of any form of AI-produced content.
According to the Project Shadowglass website, “Everything you see is 100% real and running realtime in-engine. It may look similar to those pretty pixel art AI videos, but this is the playable real deal. No content or art featured in Project Shadowglass will be AI generated.” It’s a massive technical undertaking to achieve this without AI assistance, and while the game is in early development, players seem to be very excited about Project Shadowglass.
Even though the game has only been listed on Steam for about a week now, it already has nearly 60k wishlists (per Patreon). In part, this is likely due to the “unique 3D pixel art technology that delivers nostalgic pixelated graphics in smooth, full 360° freedom.”
The indie developer has “spent decades perfecting” this technology, and claims that players will be able to “walk around objects, examine details from any angle, and climb structures while enjoying those perfect little square pixels.“
Project Shadowglass is a stealth fantasy sim game inspired by cult classics like Thief and Deus Ex, with reactive environments and gameplay with “lasting consequences where every action could leave a trail back to you.” While it’s still in early development, the game is projected to roll out Early Access as soon as 2027.
BG3 Creator’s Endorsement Goes A Long Way For Project Shadowglass
The Vincke Stamp Of Approval Will Surely Hike Interest
For an indie developer, the Swen Vincke seal of approval will certainly go a long way in garnering interest in Project Shadowglass, but players will have to wait a while before they get their hands on anything tangible such as a playable demo or Early Access. Regardless, this is definitely a project that fans will want to keep an eye on as development continues over the coming months.
Ultimately, Project Shadowglass is extremely promising and Vincke’s endorsement is a great sign for the fantasy game’s future. Despite being in the extremely early phases of development, Baldur’s Gate 3 fans and fantasy enthusiasts across the board will surely want to have this one on their radar.
