Even after two years of release, Baldur’s Gate 3 is still going strong with a consistent player base, thanks to mods that allow for further character and game customization – many people have created their own origin mods, but one of the most recent additions to the manager adds an insane amount of variety.
Mod.io user Eviluess recently uploaded “More Origins” – this not only unlocks companion characters such as Minthara and Halsin early on, but also many beloved NPCS and a handful of villains. Removing some of these characters from their NPC roles can entirely turn your game on its head.
All Characters Unlocked In The More Origins Mod
From Alfira To The Strange Ox, You Can Play As Almost Any Notable Character
Some characters, such as Sazza, Aradin, Dalyria, Losiir, and Rugan aren’t all that important in the original story, but you can put an entirely new spin on them if you choose to make them your protagonist.
Though there’s only so much modders can do and, for example, Astarion can’t react to seeing Dalyria (one of his “sisters”) again, it’s still great to be able to reimagine these characters in a more prominent role.
All Current Extra Origins (As Of October 6th, 2025)
- Alfira
- Aradin
- Auntie Ethel
- Cazador
- Dalyria
- Halsin
- Jaheira
- Ketheric Thorm
- Losiir

- Minthara
- Mizora
- Mystic Carrion
- Rugan
- Sazza
- Sceleritas Fel
- Scratch
- Strange Ox
- Ulder Ravengard
- Viconia DeVir
- Withers
This is also one of the many ways to finally properly play as Alfira and spare her the wrath of the Dark Urge. You can even play as Scratch, who is arguably Baldur’s Gate 3‘s true main character.
However, having other NPCS such as Mizora, Duke Ravengard, and Cazador as playable origin characters will force you to approach quests much differently, which isn’t an experience you can typically have any other way. Whether you want to try out a fun challenge, see characters in different cutscenes, or create ridiculous photo mode pictures, this mod is an absolute hidden gem.
More Playable Characters Make Baldur’s Gate 3 Even Crazier
You Can Build Some New, Unique Stories By Utilizing This Mod
As is likely obvious, this mod is heavily focused on roleplay. Choosing to play as a certain character will remove them from the story, similarly to how choosing a non-custom origin character will prevent you from finding them elsewhere in the world during vanilla gameplay.
This is demonstrated in Eviluess’ showcase video on YouTube, where they can be seen playing as Sazza outside her usual cage in the Emerald Grove. Eviluess describes the mod as a way for players to test out “What-If” scenarios – what if the Strange Ox was the hero of Baldur’s Gate, or what if Losiir never died in the Nautiloid crash?
This does mean that you may potentially miss out on some usual quests, so this mod is best suited for seasoned players who are already familiar with the story.
With some imagination, this mod opens up so many narrative possibilities, but at the end of the day, it’s also just a fun add-on to play around with. If you’re a big fan of some of Baldur’s Gate 3‘s more underrated NPCS, then you should definitely use this mod to spice up your next campaign.
