Kenny Sun and friends’ brick-breaking smash hit Ball x Pit has been set to receive a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 version, but was previously without an exact date. The game is already playable on the system via backward compatibility, but now Switch 2 owners won’t have to wait long to receive a free update.
Ball x Pit‘s Nintendo Switch 2 version will release on October 28, 2025, just four days after its launch date was announced today. A short teaser trailer was released by the official Ball x Pit Bluesky account, and while details are scarce, a free update for Nintendo Switch owners has been promised. It’s currently unclear if the Switch 2 version will be an update to the existing Switch client on the successor system, or if it will require a separate download for the game.

Break Bricks In Higher Resolution
When Ball x Pit released on October 15, a Switch 2 version was already announced, but had a vague Fall 2025 release window, which has now – nine days after release – been narrowed down to October 28. The Brick Breaker roguelite has quickly become one of this year’s biggest indie sensations, selling more than 400,000 copies in its first week of being available.
Despite no details, the obvious upgrades for the Switch 2 version of Ball x Pit are higher resolutions in both docked and handheld modes, and smoother frame rates. Like other free Switch 2 updates, save files are expected to carry over if you’ve already been playing the Switch version, though this too has not yet been confirmed.

I Can’t Believe I’ve Been Playing At 720p
There’s nothing necessarily wrong with the Switch version of Ball x Pit – it’s already keeping me up at night – but it has clearly taken some performance hits to run smoothly on the dated hardware. Ball x Pit seems to run at 720p in both docked and handheld mode on the Switch, and I’ve had a few instances of the game chugging when I’ve ended up with a truly absurd number of balls and special ball evolutions on-screen thanks to certain character combinations.
My wishlist for the Switch 2 update includes mouse controls (even if they’re not really necessary), and some accessibility options that are available in the PC version, like being able to adjust the chromatic aberration, CRT filter, and dithering. Better performance alone is enough to get me excited, however. The tough part will be putting Ball x Pit down for a few days while I wait for the update.
