Bandits have abducted at least eight persons in Biresawa village of Tsanyawa local government area of Kano state.
The attackers raided the village between 11pm and midnight on Monday.
“They came as usual, and from our findings so far, two males and six females were taken away by the bandits. Up till now, there is no news on their whereabouts,” a source told Daily Trust.
Kabiru Usman, a relative of some of the victims, said the assailants entered through Tsundu village, adding that, “they came on foot, armed with guns. They kidnapped my wife, Umma; my 17-year-old daughter, Fati; my brother’s wife, and two other women.”
He added that residents could not resist the attackers because they were outgunned.
He said they had alerted the police and military after receiving reports that bandits were moving towards the area.
He said, “Before the attack occurred, we got a report that they were heading towards us, and we notified the security agencies, including the police and military.”
Another resident said the bandits also raided Sarmawa, Yan Chibi, and Gano villages in Tsanyawa local government area.
He said, “About 50 bandits riding motorcycles came into our community, Yan Chibi, shooting in the air, and we all ran for safety.”
He said more than 10 people were abducted across the affected villages.
A vigilante source said strange movements had been reported earlier, prompting community mobilisation as some residents pursued the bandits but lost their trail after they crossed into Katsina state.
He said fear has gripped many communities following recent attacks in nearby Shanono and Bagwai local government areas.
He said several families now avoid sleeping in their homes at night and many villages have been deserted due to persistent insecurity, as several residents have moved to Faruruwa town or relocated to urban areas.
