Bandits have attacked travellers along the Osokoko–Obajana axis in Kogi State, abducting an unspecified number of passengers.
According to multiple eyewitness accounts, two commercial 18-seater buses were targeted during the incident.
One of the buses reportedly managed to escape, while all passengers on the intercepted vehicle were taken away by the attackers.
Local media platform Egbe Mekun Parrot reported that the armed men blocked the road and seized the commuters before security operatives arrived.
A source said soldiers were deployed to the scene shortly after the attack and engaged the bandits in a gun duel in an effort to repel the assault.
The military response was captured in a short video circulating online, showing stranded travellers waiting on the highway until troops secured the area.
Earlier, SaharaReporters had reported the attack, which occurred on Thursday afternoon and caused panic across nearby communities and among motorists plying the route.
Residents have since cautioned travellers to avoid the road pending further security clearance.
In one of the circulating videos, a female traveller was heard saying the area had been secured, adding: “Road don clear, all thanks to the Nigerian Army, everybody don dey go back.”
Security authorities are yet to issue an official statement confirming the number of victims or the outcome of the engagement with the bandits.
The attack underscores persistent security challenges across key transport corridors in Kogi, where violent criminal groups have continued to target motorists and communities.
On Wednesday, suspected bandits also attempted to abduct students from Kiri High School in Aiyetoro Kiri, Kabba Bunu local government area.
Members of the local vigilante group were said to have rescued all the students who had been taken, although one vigilante and another resident were reportedly killed during the confrontation.
