Bandit 1

Bandits launched a deadly attack on the Gatawa community in the Sabon-Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Saturday night, resulting in several deaths and injuries, local sources have confirmed.

The assailants reportedly stormed the community in large numbers, opening fire indiscriminately and causing widespread panic. Eyewitnesses who spoke with Sahara Reporters noted that residents fled in all directions to seek safety.

Although the authorities have not yet released official casualty figures, local reports indicate that a number of residents were killed, and others sustained injuries. The assailants also reportedly abducted an unspecified number of people during the attack.

This incident adds to a growing concern over the worsening security situation in Sokoto State, which a persistent wave of violent attacks by bandits and other criminal groups has plagued.

Earlier on the same day, another attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Kiba Ruwa, a community also located in the Sabon-Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Bandits targeted worshippers observing the Subh prayer at a mosque, opening fire on the congregation.

According to local sources, the attackers stormed the mosque at dawn, killing two individuals, including the imam who was leading the prayer. Several worshippers were abducted during the assault, though the exact number of those taken remains unverified.
