A Nigerian police officer attached to Operation Restore Peace has been shot dead after armed men opened fire on him in Adabka village, Bukkuyum Local Government Area, Zamfara State.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 11:44 a.m. The slain officer, who was deployed from Mopol 15, Ilorin, Kwara State, had left his duty post in Adabka and was heading to Tibis village to purchase essential supplies.
Sources noted that the attack reflects the operational tactics of bandit groups linked to the Dan-Karama Gwaska and Dansadau networks, which are known for precise ambushes and rapid withdrawals.
Security sources in Bukkuyum told Zagazola Makama that the officer was ambushed on the outskirts of Adabka by bandits hiding in surrounding bushes. He was shot on the spot, and his service riot gun was reportedly taken by the attackers.
“Field teams deployed to the scene recovered the body of the fallen operative, which was evacuated to Adabka Primary Health Care Centre for documentation,” the source said.
As of the time of reporting, the Zamfara State Police Command has yet to comment on the incident. Attempts by SaharaReporters to reach the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, were unsuccessful.
In recent weeks, there has been a surge in bandit activities across Nigeria, leading to numerous fatalities, including among security personnel.
