Suspected armed bandits have killed two persons and injured three others in separate attacks on Adabka and Mashayar Zaki communities in Zamfara State.
The incidents, which occurred on Tuesday, December 10, have reignited concerns over the persistent insecurity plaguing parts of the North-Western state.
In Adabka Village, located in Bukkuyum Local Government Area, about 43 armed men stormed the outskirts of the community around 11:30 am and opened fire, killing 45-year-old Alhaji Muhammad Dan Dabara.
His body was later transported to the hospital for an autopsy and subsequently handed over to his family for burial in line with Islamic rites.
Police sources who spoke with security expert, Zagazola Makama, said an investigation into the attack has commenced, while efforts are underway to track down the perpetrators.
Barely an hour later, another group of gunmen struck Mashayar Zaki Village along the Gusau-Dansadau Road in Maru Local Government Area.
The attackers shot dead one person and left three others with gunshot wounds before fleeing the scene.
Emergency responders evacuated the injured victims to a nearby medical facility for treatment, while the deceased was released to relatives for burial.
Authorities have since deployed additional patrol teams to both areas, with intensified surveillance and intelligence gathering efforts aimed at forestalling further attacks.
