Suspected bandits have attacked Sabuwar Unguwa in the Kofar Kaura area of Katsina state, killing a vigilante and abducting a man, his wife and his daughter.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Tuesday when the gunmen stormed the residence of Anas Ahmadu, 33, located behind Gidan Rodi Steel Rolling Company.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers, armed with sophisticated weapons, shot dead Abdullahi Muhammad, 25, a vigilante member who attempted to resist them.

Residents described the scene as chaotic and urged authorities to intensify security measures, warning of rising cases of banditry in Katsina.

Police spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the attack and said operatives led by the divisional police officer restored calm and launched a manhunt for the assailants.

Sadiq added that the commissioner of police, Bello Shehu, visited the scene with senior officers and deployed additional personnel to rescue the victims and apprehend the attackers.

“The command calls on members of the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or make use of the command’s emergency lines for prompt action,” he said.
