The Special Adviser to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Bolaji Akinola, has sharply rebutted the claims made by Osun State governorship aspirant Senator Iyiola Omisore that Minister Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola interfered in the All Progressives Congress (APC’s) screening process.
Akinola issued a statement on Sunday, describing Omisore’s allegations as “baseless and misleading” and “totally false.”
Omisore’s accusations followed his disqualification and that of six other aspirants from the party’s primary scheduled for December 13, 2025.
Recall that Omisore had earlier on Saturday, while speaking with newsmen in Abuja, criticised his disqualification from the party’s Osun governorship primary, calling the decision “a huge joke” and accusing the screening panel of being biased and engaging in procedural violations. He said they acted under pressure to disqualify aspirants in favor of a particular candidate.
Akinola, speaking on behalf of Minister Oyetola, firmly distanced the Minister from the controversial screening decisions:
He stated that Oyetola, who is a former Governor of Osun State, “had no role, whether direct or indirect, in the Screening Committee’s decisions” regarding the upcoming primary.
Akinola emphasized that the Screening Committee and the Screening Appeal Panel are independent organs of the APC, constitutionally empowered to function without external interference.
He maintained that Oyetola is committed to fairness, transparency, and strict adherence to party rules, principles he would never compromise.
The Special Adviser asserted that as a respected leader, Oyetola remains committed to internal democracy and urged all aspirants to use the party’s established internal mechanisms to channel their complaints, rather than resorting to public allegations.
