Battlefield 6 Crossplay Issues: Console Players At Disadvantage

Battlefield 6 possibly could be one of the most successful launches in the franchise’s long history of epic FPS multiplayer war games, releasing to near-universal praise among players and critics alike. While fans haven’t had very many major complaints about Battlefield 6 multiplayer balance, its crossplay functionality has sparked a wave of complaints across social media.

According to players on Reddit, X, and even EA’s own Battlefield 6 forum, crossplay lacks console-only functionality, is filling players’ lobbies with bots, and is placing console players into matches with PC users, putting console players at a major disadvantage overall.

Various players over the weekend have reported unfortunate experiences with Battlefield 6 crossplay, such as players like Relatable-Af on Reddit, who claims that “as a console player, getting put into majority PC lobbies can get quite frustrating and exhausting. I try to turn off cross play and get bot majority lobbies.” Instances of bot accounts are not the only issue either.

Battlefield 6 has stated that console players will be prioritized with other console players when crossplay is enabled in order to provide a more balanced experience. PC users are widely considered to have an advantage with FPS games in general, but because Battlefield 6 doesn’t include a console-only crossplay option, Xbox and PlayStation users are limited to their own systems with crossplay disabled and the issue is more glaring.

Lack of console-to-console crossplay has resulted in some players having an unfair experience playing Battlefield 6 multiplayer, while disabling crossplay reportedly results in bot-filled lobbies and other issues for console players. It’s also worth noting that fans such as Enders on X argue there is no crossplay balance issue, and that this is a skill and strategy issue that console players need to overcome.

Battlefield 6 might have some minor imbalance issues with crossplay between console and PC, and images of players being placed in bot-filled lobbies are unfortunate, but ultimately these problems are not deal-breakers. Players largely agrree that Battlefield 6 has taken its matchmaking and crossplay design in the right direction compared to Battlefield 2042, and they’ve made a concerted effort to try to place console players together as often as possible.

It’s not a perfect system, however, and incidents of console players becoming frustrated or disappointed are likely to happen even if an update is rolled out to address crossplay balance. Ultimately, a console-to-console crossplay option would go a long way in giving console players a more fair and balanced multiplayer experience in Battlefield 6, but as of this writing, no official announcement has been made.
