Battlefield 6 has only been out for less than a day, but it has already beaten out rival Call of Duty in its player counts. The next installment of EA’s first-person shooter franchise has been one of the most anticipated releases of 2025 so far, and reviews for Battlefield 6 have been largely positive so far.
As reported by Insider Gaming, Battlefield 6‘s current Steam player peak stands at over 704,005, surpassing Call of Duty‘s all-time peak of 491,670 just an hour after going live. Of course, this number will grow as release weekend continues, but it is already a solid start for Battlefield 6.

According to Steam’s database, Battlefied 6 has also beaten its PC player peak from the already record-shattering beta test from back in August, which acquired 521,000 users. This was the highest peak in Battlefield franchise history, with over 420 million matches played and 90 million combined hours played.
The Battlefield 6 beta provided only a fraction of the content available in the main game, which introduces a new “Kinesthetic Combat System,” which lets players lean around cover for a killing shot and drag teammates to safety before reviving them. Battlefield‘s trademark destruction has also been refined, as players can gain a tactical advantage by blasting their surroundings.
Other noteworthy Battlefront 6 features include a new globe-spanning single-player campaign that features a conflict between NATO and a private military company named Pax Armata, a massive sandbox mode, and the upcoming battle royale mode.

This seems to be adding up to a blockbuster launch weekend for Battlefield 6, with thousands of players trying to jump into an online match amid crowded servers and busy queues. It hasn’t always been the smoothest of debuts, as players are reportedly dealing with long wait times and error messages as EA struggles to keep up with high demand.
On the brighter side, these technical issues will likely improve as Battlefield 6‘s launch weekend continues and EA has a chance to adjust its servers in response to the ever-growing player counts. Overall, it looks like Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will have some fierce competition when it launches on November 14.
