The Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has thrown its weight behind calls from across the country to zone the party’s 2027 presidential ticket to the Southern region.
In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Derri Alasuote Wright, the Bayelsa PDP described the move as a step towards deepening fairness, inclusiveness, and national unity, asserting that the party must remain responsive to the aspirations of all Nigerians.
The chapter also reaffirmed Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the authentic National Secretary of the PDP, citing a recent Supreme Court judgment as “very clear and unambiguous” on the matter.
Acting Chairman of the Bayelsa PDP, George Turnah, commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and members of the G5 group, former governors Samuel Ortom, Okezie Ikpeazu, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for their roles in championing the recent zoning resolution at a meeting in Abuja.
According to Turnah, the gathering reaffirmed Wike’s “unwavering love for the PDP” and his commitment to upholding justice within the party.
He noted that Wike’s leadership has “endeared him to all genuinely committed members of the Party nationwide.”
The statement read in part: “We fully endorse the resolutions reached at the meeting, and as a State Chapter, we stand by the recognition of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the PDP. There is no vacancy requiring any replacement whatsoever.
“Our party’s Constitution and the Supreme Court decision are very clear and unambiguous on this issue.
“As a State Chapter, we stand united with our eminent leaders and concerned stakeholders across the Federation in the decision to zone the Presidential ticket of our party for the upcoming 2027 elections to the Southern region.
“This strategic move demonstrates our commitment to inclusivity and fairness and ensures the PDP remains attuned to the voices of all Nigerians.”
The statement concluded with a renewed pledge of loyalty to Wike and a call for unity within the party as it works towards reclaiming power in 2027.
“Bayelsa State PDP remains steadfast in its support for Nyesom Wike as our national leader, as well as our endorsement of Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary.
“Together, we will forge ahead with renewed vigour to restore the PDP to its rightful place as a beacon of hope and justice for our people and nation,” the party stated.
