WATCH THE VIDEO HERE Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund is confident that the team is on the right track, despite their mid-week capitulation against Barcelona in the Champions League, Soccernet.football reports. The Bavarians made the trip to Spain on the back of a handsome victory over VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga. However, a lackluster defensive performance saw Kompany’s men punished on four ruthless occasions by the hosts. That defeat against Barcelona means Bayern have only managed one win from their last five matches in all competitions. Nevertheless, Freund believes the Bundesliga giants remain on the right track despite recent setbacks. “I’m convinced that the team has the key to success if they follow the match plan. Then the chances are very high that we will be successful,” said Freund as quoted by @iMiaSanMia. “It’s a fact that the team is really giving it their all and has worked hard. “The coach and the coaching staff are also working hard and professionally. We will reward ourselves with results. That’s why I am firmly convinced in this path.” Freund also looked to back Manuel Neuer, who has come under fire on social media. The veteran shot-stopper had a night to forget in Catalonia, conceding every time Barca managed to hit the target. “Manu certainly had games in which he didn’t excel. It’s difficult for a goalkeeper when there aren’t many chances conceded but these chances are taken with ice-cold precision,” Freund continued. “Manu is always trying to improve. He’s playing a very attacking goalkeeping game, our style of play suits him. He’s still a great support for the team, a great personality. He is very present, we are very happy that he’s in goal for us. “There will be many games in which we will talk differently about our goalkeeper because he has won games for us. We are quite sure of that.” Bayern return to Bundesliga action on Sunday, October 27. They travel to Vonovia Ruhrstadion where a date with bottom feeders VFL Bochum awaits. Kompany’s men will certainly see this game as the perfect opportunity to regain some positive momentum.
